Day 1 in Iceland

Thankfully we made it- but barely! :) Brett and I drove from Vancouver to Seattle for our flight. We had an hour and a half connection in NYC, but our flight was delayed over an hour out of Seattle due to thunderstorms back east. We landed in NYC with about half an hour to connect at which point we spent the next hour on the taxi-way since flights were backed up in NYC and a plane was still in our gate. Frantic phone calls were made to Delta at which point we FINALLY pulled up to our gate and saw that the plane right next to us was our connecting plane to Iceland!! We hauled butt off the plane and made it- whew!!

It was so nice to finally arrive in Iceland. Got a big bear hug from my dad and headed out into the brisk Icelandic air. We headed back to my dad's place and relaxed!! Dad cooked up a leg of lamb and some sweet potatoes- yum!!

After dinner settled we headed to downtown Reykjavik to see the shops and stretch our legs. Purchased some post cards and walked by a beautiful lake in the middle of the city. I also was able to stop by the large Lutheran Church in Iceland that I've always wanted to see. It was massive!! Will have to go inside at another time- we strolled through town pretty late (its 1am right now and its still light outside).

First day in Iceland wouldn't be complete without an Icelandic hot dog (yes they are different and delicious)!! Its been 5 years since I had one and I STILL think about them. Haha.
Off to bed for now- more adventures tomorrow. Dinner with my Uncle Helgi and Aunt Debbie. And hopefully get on the local time over here (7 hours ahead). Wish us luck!!! ;)
